MASSAGE FAQs

prenatal massage

Prenatal massage is available after the first trimester (12 weeks). For those in the first trimester, we offer facials, manicures and pedicures.

Our pre-natal massages are performed side-lying. We do not have a pregnancy massage bed.

postnatal massage

A post-natal massage soothes many muscular stresses resulting from physical changes that occur during pregnancy. It is also a wonderful way to pamper new moms during the sleep-deprived months of caring for an infant.

what to wear

During a massage, you may undress fully or wear your undergarments, depending on what makes you feel most comfortable. The therapist will only uncover the area of the body being worked on and immediately recover it as he/she moves on to the next area.

massage pressure

We want you to feel great, so please tell us if the pressure is too hard, too soft, or if you’d like us to change anything.

if you have an injury

Whether you can have a massage totally depends on the type of injury. With inflammation, dislocation or sprains, massage should be delayed until the acute phase passes. For chronic injuries (such as spinal disc injuries) please inform the therapist at the start of the session so they can accommodate any contraindications the injury may present.

Deep Tissue vs. Swedish

Swedish Massage is best for relieving generalized tension and providing overall relaxation. Deep Tissue Massage offers targeted treatment and stronger pressure.

shaving

To avoid irritation and skin sensitivity, it is ideal to shave 12 hours or more before a massage or body treatment.

FACIAL FAQs

choosing your facial

You will need to choose a type of facial when you book, but you are welcome to switch it for any other facial within the same time frame after you consult with your aesthetician.

special event

If you have an important event--wedding, date, etc.--book a facial seven days prior. Because the skin is stimulated during a facial, it may need time to detoxify or heal. You may also have an allergic reaction, or, in rare cases, experience irritation, which is why it is best to play it safe.

treatment order

Most guests prefer to have a facial after a massage, to allow the skincare products more time to absorb into the skin. But it really is a personal preference. Either way, make sure to stay and enjoy our Water Lounge.

It is best to have your facial after the Water Lounge and, if possible, shower before your facial as well, so that you can keep the amazing potions and lotion on your skin.

pregnancy

Our natural and organic skincare products and facials are absolutely safe for pregnant women.

extractions

We do extractions when beneficial, but if you don’t want them, just tell your aesthetician and she will customize a facial for you with no extractions. If you do want extractions, in most cases, the best treatment is our Deep Cleansing Facial, which we can also customize.

allergies & sensitive skin

If you have allergies or sensitive skin, please inform the front desk and tell your aesthetician. She will make sure to select appropriate products for your skin.

retinol & topical medication

Please discontinue the use of any topical medication or retinols 4 days prior to your facial.

waxing

We recommend waxing 48 hours before or after a facial, to avoid irritation.

medical aesthetic procedures

If you have a medical aesthetic procedure scheduled, it is best to follow your doctor’s advice on whether you should have a facial soon before or after. Please consult your doctor.

frequency

A facial is recommended at least once every season. Beyond that, it depends on your skin and your personal goals. Our aestheticians can help you develop an at-home regimen to complement your facials.
